SMART and Eduserve launch project to study impact of interactive whiteboards in Chinese classrooms
Eight schools across China will participate in the research project
CALGARY, Alberta --- June 17, 2005 --- SMART Technologies Inc. and Eduserve, one of SMART’s distributors in China, announce the launch of a research project to measure the impact of SMART Board™ interactive whiteboards on student learning and outcomes in eight schools across China. At each of the schools, a teacher will monitor four classrooms, all of which will have SMART Board interactive whiteboards provided and installed by SMART and Eduserve. The teachers will be trained on how to use SMART products. The research project commences in June 2005, and researchers will submit their findings after one year.
The selected schools are The Experimental High School, Beijing, attached to Beijing Normal University; Shanghai Jin Ca High School; Nan Ning City Min Zhu Road Elementary School, Guang Xi; Chongqing Ren Min Primary School; Guang Xi Nanning Chao Yang Lu Primary School; Chongqing Ba Shu Middle School; Beijing Feng Tai District Primary School; and The Second Experimental High School, attached to Shanghai Model University.
“Good research helps SMART develop products to meet the needs of our customers in various jurisdictions,” says Nancy Knowlton, SMART’s president and co-CEO. “SMART understands the importance of facilitating research that is specific to Chinese classrooms, and the findings of this research project will help education buyers make informed choices as they implement interactive whiteboards in their schools.”
About SMART Board interactive whiteboards
The SMART Board interactive whiteboard is a large, touch-sensitive display. Connected to a computer and projector, the interactive whiteboard is like a giant computer screen that students and teachers simply touch to operate. Using their finger or a pen as a mouse, teachers and students can access and control any computer application, file or multimedia platform, including the Internet, CD-ROMs and DVDs. They can also write over applications in digital ink, then save their work for future study and review. The SMART Board interactive whiteboard engages students with diverse learning styles by providing both immediate access to a wide range of digital materials and a common focus for the entire class – not something easily achieved with other technologies. It is the number one choice among primary and secondary school educators in more than 75 countries worldwide because the pioneering software interface captures the imagination of students of all backgrounds and abilities in order to help them learn together, understand better and achieve more.
